IJMB meaning

IJMB means Interim Joint Matriculation Board, it is a nine-month program that allows students to gain admission into a Nigerian university without writing the JAMB/ UTME. Upon successful completion, students can apply for admission into 200 level at universities of their choice. It is recognized by the National Universities Commission (NUC) as an admission pathway for students who are unable to gain admission through jamb.

IJMB Syllabus

The Interim Joint Matriculation Board (IJMB) Examination syllabus is designed to provide students with comprehensive studies that meets the admission requirements of universities in Nigeria and some universities abroad. In just one academic year, divided into two semesters, the syllabus covers all necessary topics for success in higher education. To ensure that students are fully prepared, the syllabus includes recommended reading materials and a minimum of 8-10 weekly hours of lectures, including practical and group work. To stay current and relevant, the syllabus is reviewed every eight years.

The Interim Joint Matriculation Board (IJMB) program was officially established in 1976 by the Interim Common Services Agency (ICSA). The ICSA was created by the government of the former Northern Region of Nigeria to provide educational and social services to the region, and the IJMB program was one of the services it offered.

History of IJMB

The Interim Joint Matriculation Board (IJMB) was established in 1976 under the Ahmadu Bello University law (Statute 5) to offer the Interim Joint Matriculation Board Examination (IJMBE) as an alternative to the Advanced Level (A’level) examination for students seeking undergraduate admission to the university. The IJMBE serves as a pathway for students to gain admission into a university without taking the traditional Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) examination.
